ICT

Intent

At FreshSteps we recognise that technology is a part of our student's daily lives and support our children in many ways.

We aim to prepare our children for their future lives by teaching them how to use technology positively, responsibly, and safely and making sure they are:

  • Using technology purposefully to create, organise, store, manipulate and Retrieve digital content.

  • Recognising common uses of information technology beyond school

  • Using technology safely and respectfully, keeping personal information private; identify where to go for help and support when they have concerns about content or contact on the internet or other online technologies

  • Creating and able to debug simple program

  • Designing and writing programs that accomplish specific goals,

  • Understanding how computer networks work including the internet; how they can provide multiple services, such as the world wide web; and the opportunities they offer for communication and collaboration

We understand the vital accessibility opportunities technology can provide for our children and we know that finding the right balance with technology is the key to an effective education and healthy lifestyle. At FreshSteps we want our pupils to understand that there is always a choice with using technology and we model the positive using it.

Implementation

At FreshSteps we teach and implement ICT and use of technology across the whole curriculum. Children have access to a range of digital devices with which they learn the fundamental concepts in ICT and can apply these skills in a variety of goal-oriented tasks.

Children learn how to:

  • be safe users of digital technology through planned e-safety lessons,

  • use technology to create a range of digital content by working collaboratively

  • learn about how computers are connected and what make up the internet

Our students have access to:

  • computers

  • iPads

  • interactive boards

throughout the school day during lessons and during break times, this is always monitored and supported by an adult.

Impact
Using technology and teaching ICT at Fresh Steps help children to:

  • Improve language skills and promotes social development and creativity,

  • Be fluent with a range of tools to best express their understanding

  • Have the independence and confidence to choose the best tool to fulfil tasks and challenges they encounter,

  • Be able to demonstrate their learning through lessons outcomes

  • Understand, as far as they can, how to use technology responsibly and safely as part of their everyday lives.
