Enrichment Activities
Horse-riding
FreshSteps partners with Lee Valley Riding Centre to provide horse-riding lessons for our pupils. As a British Horse Society-approved centre, Lee Valley offers lessons that cater to both beginners and more experienced riders. Some of our pupils have gained confidence to the point where they can independently lead, trot, and guide their horses. Additionally, several students have achieved their Level 1 badges, showcasing their progression and competence. The centre's impressive facilities include an indoor arena, two floodlit outdoor arenas, show jumping and cross-country courses, and a spectators area, providing an excellent environment for students to learn and grow in their riding abilities.
Boxing Classes
FreshSteps has maintained a long-standing collaboration with Joe's Boxing Club, offering weekly boxing sessions for our pupils. These sessions go beyond physical fitness, focusing on discipline, anger management, and fostering healthy lifestyles. Through boxing, our pupils learn valuable life skills, while also engaging in an enjoyable and structured activity that promotes both mental and physical well-being.
Swimming
At FreshSteps, pupils engage in weekly swimming lessons, which promote both well-being and essential life skills. During these sessions, pupils are taught a variety of swimming techniques and encouraged to swim different lengths of the pool based on their ability. For those who require additional support, staff accompany them in the pool to ensure a safe and enjoyable learning experience.
Astro Turf Sports
Various year groups use the offsite Astro Turf, where they participate in football and a variety of other sports. This facility enhances their physical education by offering them access to high-quality sports surfaces, allowing pupils to practise teamwork, agility, and coordination in a safe environment.
Local Community Engagement
FreshSteps values its connection with the local community and utilizes local centres to enrich the curriculum. Pupils take part in educational visits to places like Crews Hill Park for outdoor learning experiences, and to the Aquarium Centrewhere they learn about aquatic life and purchase fish for school projects. These trips help students develop an understanding of their community, while also learning important lessons in responsibility and environmental awareness.
